Standard Operating Guidelines The Montague Volunteer Fire Department 1st Responders (MVFD 1st Responders) provide preliminary emergency medical care to patients requesting an ambulance for transportation to a hospital or other medical facility. MVFD 1st Responders provide preliminary emergency medical care as per their level of training. This training does not include transportation of a patient to a medical facility. The MVFD 1st Responders provide care to the patient until the higher trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) arrive on scene. Transportation of patients is provided by the local ambulance squad known as Blue Ridge Rescue Squad (BRRS), who are trained EMT’s. Their training is a higher level of care and includes transportation of patients to a medical facility. The care of the patient is transferred from the MVFD 1st Responders to the EMT upon arrival of the Basic Life Support (BLS) unit. In the event the local squad, BRRS, is not available, the dispatch center for BRRS (Newton Police) will follow the most current dispatch procedure that is on file at the Dispatch Center. If BRRS is not available the Mutual Aid Squad(s) will be requested as per BRRS dispatch procedure. MVFD 1st Responders cannot cancel the EMT’s or Paramedics nor do they have control over the dispatching of an ambulance. For more specific details, refer to the SOG Book. These guidelines will remain in effect until superseded by another as of this date, July 15, 2007. |
